How do we find you?
We find that most guests come from the UK via Calais taking the A26 towards Arras and then the A1 for Paris. Come off at Junction 13.1 and take the D938 to Albert. After a couple of kilometres there is a signpost right to Hardecourt aux Bois. Rue du Mantier is right at the church and we are number 10.
• Is there a local bus service?
No. We are in the depths of rural France and very isolated. Your own transport is vital here.
• Where are the nearest shops?
The nearest is in Combles about 5km away. Large supermarkets are at Peronne and Albert, both 15km away. Combles also has a chemist, a doctor and a post office. Supermarkets mainly open between 8.30am-7.00pm non-stop but close Sundays, but ATAC in Albert and Shopi in Bray sur Somme are open until noon.
• Where can we buy fuel?
The nearest place is in Longueval at Le Calypso café. There are also petrol stations in Albert and Peronne.
• Where is the nearest hospital?
The nearest are at Albert and Peronne.
• Where can we eat out?
You are never far away from good food in France and we will be happy to advise you and make reservations. Nearest is Le Calypso in Longueval. The Auberge au Vallée d’Ancre in Authuille is excellent. Unbeatable value weekdays comes from Le Poppy in La Boisselle. Tried and tested by us are also the Hotel de la Paix in Albert and La Stromboli pizzeria in Bapaume.
• Is it safe to take battlefield
finds home?
No! They can still kill. Souvenirs
of this type can often be bought safely defused from local museums.
It is a very serious offence - and extremely dangerous - to take live
ammunition to Britain and you will have the book thrown at you if caught.
• Is there
a bar in the village?
No, but we do offer a door-to-door
taxi service to the nearest bar, which is about a five minute drive
away from here.
